PIGMENTS

I work with natural pigments extracted from minerals, metals, plants and ochres, ground by hand and prepared according to traditional methods transmitted by present-day Indian masters.

My palette is based on primary colours peori, shingraf and indigo, with also sindur, lac, zinc white or khariya, lampblack and, occasionally, malachite and azurite.

I use pure gold made into paint from gold leaves.

PAPER

I paint on handmade paper sourced from Sanganeer, Rajasthan. I prepare my own vasli by pasting together two or three pieces of paper with a wheat paste and coating the upper layer with a mixture of gum and white pigment.
